Using Libraries

Libraries allow you to set up classes of work, or projects, within VIS. The best way to explain this concept and its use is through an example.
Suppose that you are a high school coach of the football team, and you use VIS with your quarterbacks and kickers for football skills, and for proper technique in the weight room. You plan to capture video of your athletes to analyze their motion and also compare them to movie clips of former athletes who demonstrated good technique.
The purpose of this file system is to:
Save movie clip examples of quarterbacks in:
C:\VIS-CLIPS\examples\football\q-backs
Save movie clip examples of football kickers in:
C:\VIS-CLIPS\examples\football\kickers
Save movie clip examples of strength training in:
C:\VIS-CLIPS\examples\strength
Save movie clips of current quarterbacks in:
c:\VIS-CLIPS\football\q-backs
Save movie clips of current kickers in:
c:\VIS-CLIPS\football\kickers
Save movie clips of current players doing strength training in:
c:\VIS-CLIPS\strength
Here's how you use the Libraries and system paths concept to use your new movies clips and instructional examples.
Let's suppose you are working with kickers today. First you go to File/Open Library to get to the Libraries Window so you can set up your paths for kicker training and analysis. The idea is that the examples of kickers that you have been collecting will be your reference material or Lib, and the Open and Save directories will be for the movies of your current kickers. Here's how to configure VIS to look at new movies and easily reference the example movies in your archive.
Display the Open File dialog box by using the File/Open File or Open Library menu or toolbar icon. Use Browse to go to the C:\VIS-CLIPS\examples\football\kickers directory and press OK. Notice that the example movies that are in this directory are displayed in the Preview Window.
In the Libraries Window, single click on Lib:xxxxxxx to highlight it and press the Set Button to set the Library path to be the folder you are currently viewing. Now, every time you want to use a reference example, you access the library folder via the File/Open Library menu or icon.
Next, using the Browse button again, go to the C:\VIS-CLIPS\football\kickers directory and press OK. Notice that the new movies, if any, appear in the Preview Window.
In the Libraries Window, single click on Open:xxxxxxx line to highlight it and press the Set Button to set the open path to the current folder. Finally, single click on the Save:xxxxxxx line to highlight it and press the Set Button. Now, every time you want to look at a current kicker's movie, access the folder via the File/Open File menu or icon. And when you save movie clips, they will be saved to this same folder.
