Capturing a Movie from Videotape

Video - capturing video from a VCR or camera

To capture a movie, start up the video window. You can start and stop the video window by:

pressing the F4 key

selecting Video on/off from Video/Video on/off on the main menu.

Clicking the video camera icon on the main toolbar

Clicking with the left mouse button in an empty window and selecting Video.

VIS is continuously capturing video - you just tell it which segments to keep. Any time the video screen open, VIS is capturing what playing in it. You tell VIS which video clips to keep by defining how many seconds before and after a triggering keystroke you want to save. The number of seconds before and after is set in Edit/Setup under the Video tab. The VIS default trigger keystroke for capturing video is the Enter key. Enter can be pressed on either the main keyboard or the number keypad.
For example, most golf swings are less than four seconds. You might set VIS to trigger on the ball strike and capture 3 seconds before and 1 second after the triggering keystroke. You press Enter when the golfer strikes the ball and VIS will grab previous 3 seconds and 1 second after. This four second movie clip is placed in a new window.
Or, you might set VIS to capture the four seconds before the trigger, and then you would simply press Enter at the end of the swing.

Tips for Capturing Movies

Turn on the Movie Position Bars under Edit/Setup/Screen so that you always have movie controls under each movie when it is captured.

Remember, VIS is continuing to capture video until the Video window is closed. Always close the Video window when you are finished capturing your movie clips to improve performance.
